It's not always easy to clean your system of pot, and you may often face consequences for using pot even when it's legal in your state. The way THC metabolites interact with your body means that you can fail a drug test days, weeks or even months after quitting completely, which hardly seems fair. Fortunately there are some quicker ways to pass a drug test if needed.
How to clean your system of pot completely
If you can clean your system of pot completely, you can easily pass urine and saliva drug tests. How long this will take, though, depends on how often you've used pot and for how long.
Even a single use can take up to a week to leave the system, depending on the amount used. For people who only use pot on a weekly basis, it may be a little over a week. In either case, a seven-day detox program should help get you started.
Daily pot users face the biggest challenge, because THC metabolites will have accumulated in them big time. The detection window could be anything from 7-30 days depending on the amount used and the person's body characteristics, but long detection times of up to three months have been reported, although thankfully only rarely. It's going to be a long haul, but the right detox kit can help.
Passing a drug test quickly
If it's not possible to detox in time for a urine drug test, you could use a detox drink about a couple of hours before your test. This will lower the levels of drug metabolites in your urine when used as directed.
Some long-term detox kits even include a detox drink that you can use if a drug test comes up before you can fully detox.
What about saliva and hair tests?
While urine drug tests are the most common, you may instead be subjected to a saliva or hair drug test.
In contrast to urine tests, saliva tests actually favor pot users most of the time. A maximum detection of 24 hours is often quoted, but some research suggests that frequent users of large amounts of pot can possibly fail a week or so after stopping. Different saliva tests may work in different ways, so if you want to be safe, use a detox mouthwash before your test.
Hair drug tests present an entirely different situation, because even if you've gone through a full-body detox, your hair will still contain detectable traces of THC. In practice, collectors take only the most recent inch and a half of hair, which limits the detection time to about 90 days. Some people reduce this a little by having their hair cut shorter but not so short as to arouse suspicion. If you do this, make sure all your body hair is also well trimmed, but using a detox shampoo is an easier way to prepare for a hair drug test.
