When you search the Internet for ways to pass a drug test, you'll find many suggestions that involve household substances. Despite people swearing that they have passed tests with these methods, there's usually not much merit to them. Either they've just been lucky or there's probably some other mechanism at work.
Most of these methods will not have negative consequences other than causing you to fail your drug test, but some are downright dangerous. Drinking bleach to pass a urine test is one such method.
What happens when you drink bleach?
Bleach is intended for cleaning, not for drinking, so it contains numerous chemicals that the human body will not appreciate, such as sodium chloride, sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, and sodium polyacrylate. There may also be fragrances and other impurities in there that are also toxic, because after all, it's not made for drinking.
Of course, drinking bleach doesn't necessarily mean you will die, especially if it's a very small amount diluted in water. Ingesting just a few drops, though, can irritate your throat, nose and eyes and lead to nausea and vomiting, which will cause even more damage to the throat. If you drink a larger amount, chlorine gas will be produced, which combined with the sodium in the bleach and the corrosive nature of bleach will lead to low blood pressure and death, possibly leading to coma or death.
What's more, there's nothing in bleach that would possibly help you to pass a drug test, so drinking bleach to pass a urine test is not only dangerous-it's also pointless.
So why do some people say it works?
Some people can just be lucky with drug tests, because false negatives occur more often than you would think. What may be helping them, however, is the large volume of water they take with the bleach. This can have a dilution effect on the urine, which may help some people to pass if they're borderline cases, but it's not a surefire way of passing.
Are there safer ways to pass a drug test?
Now you know that drinking bleach to pass a urine test is dangerous and pointless, let's look at some safer ways to pass a drug test.
If you have some days before your drug test, it may be possible to pass by just avoiding drugs until then, especially if you can complete a 7-day detox program.
In some cases, though, it may not be possible to fully detox in a week. This most notably includes heavier weed users, who may need to abstain for a few weeks before they can pass a urine drug test. This is where a detox drink or some detox pills can help.
These products are designed to be used on the day of your urine test to quickly flush your urinary system and reduce the levels of toxins in your urine. Although you will not need to be completely clean for your drug test, a period of abstinence (the longer the better) is recommended in the days leading to your test.
