You’ve been testing positive for Benzos, but you’re not taking any of them.
You’re not fun of Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin or anything else pill like these.
You’re in shock. Your family, house, career, reputation and even freedom are at risk.
Why it's happening to you? How the person never used any Benzos can get positive drug test result for them? Can this situation repeat? We’ll answer these and other questions.
Do they test everyone for Benzos?
No. If labs use standard and most common 5-panel drug screen, for example like this, they do not test you for Benzos. In the case, if 7-panel or 10-panel drug screen used, labs do have to test your sample for Benzos. And even if you don’t take any of them, however, you can get a false-positive result using routine meds against a headache or your legally prescribed antidepressant.
What substances cause false positive Benzos drug test?
Several groups of widely administered medications cause a cross-reaction and show up in the urine sample like Benzos. We made some investigation and found these:
Someone on the forums said that cold medications or antihistamine pills could cause a false positive for Benzos. However, we not found the evidence.
It’s sad, but standard drug screen does not guarantee 100% accuracy and the innocent person put under suspicion. What are the reasons for this situation?
First, different labs testing the urine samples for drugs, use different chemicals.
Second, the cross-reaction happens. That’s why the person never used any illicit drug get a positive result of the test.
And it happens not rare as it may be thought. For example, approximately 30% of those who’ve taken one medication listed above was tested positive for Benzos.
Whats next after your false positives for Benzos?
If you’re not taking any Benzos, you have to prove it. To confirm your innocence, they have to perform GC/MS test to confirm that you're not on any drug they suspect. This more accurate and expensive test will show up exactly are you using any Benzos or not. You should wait a couple of days for the results, and we get what you’re going through. It’s unfair when you did not take Benzos, but another drug makes your test positive. And in minutes from an ordinary person, you turn into a drug user.
How to avoid false positive results of a drug test?
Some rules will help. Until your test:
Try to avoid any meds. “No meds before the test” — this rule is your best decision, even if this is herbal anti-stress meds. And any illicit drugs, of course for a couple of weeks.
Inform what you have to take. If you can’t stop taking meds because of your health condition, say about this to a lab technician and provide a prescription from your doctor.
Stick to a healthy lifestyle. Drink mineral water, eat veggies, avoid junk food, alcohol, nicotine, artificial stimulants. Exercise and sleep enough. Check yourself at home.
