When you go to a party, it can be really tempting to experiment with drugs when they're offered to you. Quickly snorting something is easy to do, but how long does a bump of coke last in the system? More specifically, how long do you need before you can pass a drug test for coke? What can you do to improve your chances?
Was it really a single use?
If it was the first time you've snorted some coke, then you're in the best possible situation given the circumstances. This doesn't necessarily mean you're safe, but we'll get to that later.
If, on the other hand, you do a bump of coke once or twice a week, you could be facing a longer detox. While cocaine leaves the body fairly quickly, drug tests usually look for the metabolite benzoylecgonine, which has a much longer half-life. If you take coke often enough, this metabolite will build up in your system, meaning you will need a longer period of abstinence to pass a drug test.
So, how long does a bump of coke last in the system?
If it was just a one-time thing, you should be clean enough to pass a urine drug test after 2-5 days, depending on how quickly your body can flush out the benzoylecgonine. If you regularly do a bump of coke, however, it could be up to 10 days before you will be clean enough. This can also be the case if you suffer from one of a number of kidney disorders, because the kidneys' need longer to filter out metabolites.
If you need to take a urine drug test, test yourself and use a detox drink if you need it.
Saliva drug tests are even less kind. You can fail one as soon as five minutes after doing a bump and as late as 10 days later, even if it was just a one off. That said, saliva tests can vary considerably in quality and detection times, so you may be able to pass one sooner. Unless you can find reliable information about your drug test, however, it's best to assume the worst and prepare yourself with a mouthwash designed for saliva drug tests.
Finally, hair drug tests have the longest detection period of all at 90 days. Fortunately, though, you probably won't fail for just a one-time use. On the other hand, if you have used coke regularly, you should definitely consider using a detox shampoo before a hair drug test.
Did you combine alcohol with coke?
First of all, combining coke with alcohol is a very dangerous thing to do. For a start, it leads to the production of a metabolite called cocaethylene, which can make the heart race so fast that you may need to go to the ER. It can even cause sudden death.
Assuming you survive, it will also affect how long even just a bump of coke will stay in the system. Cocaethylene has a much longer half-life, and it has the potential to linger for as long as a month in the body.
