You may have heard a rumor that Sure Jell (and other fruit-pectin products like Certo) can hold toxins (e.g., drug metabolites) within your body. Now, if this were true, those metabolites would not come out through your urine or saliva, enabling you to safely pass a drug test. It sounds too good to be true doesn't it, especially as you can buy Sure Jell from any half-decent grocery store.
So, assuming you use it correctly, how long does Sure Jell hold toxins in the body? Does it really hold a significant amount of toxins? Are there other ways to pass a drug test?
How long does Sure Jell hold toxins in the body?
Let's start with the bad news: Sure Jell does not hold toxins in the body, at least to any meaningful degree. Here are the two main theories and our take on them.
Sure Jell lines the stomach and bladder
This theory states that by lining the stomach, but more importantly the bladder, THC metabolites are prevented from entering the urine. This makes little sense, because Sure Jell is unlikely to get to your bladder in the first place. Second, the kidneys filter out toxins and deposit them in the urine, so "lining" the bladder wouldn't really achieve anything.
Sure Jell binds with THC metabolites and holds them in the intestines
This one is based on a few valid facts, so it has a little more promise:
- THC and its metabolites are fat-soluble.
- A large portion of THC is excreted through your stools.
- The soluble fiber in Sure Jell binds with lipids in the intestines that may contain THC.
While the above statements are true in theory, in practice they probably have little effect on the amount of THC metabolites in your urine. The general consensus is that any success with the Sure Jell method comes from the huge amounts of Gatorade and water that are needed to wash it down. This has a dilution effect on your urine, causing the toxins to be less concentrated. Unfortunately, unless you really know what you're doing, dilution can be easily detected by an adulterant test or even just a brief visual inspection. It also would not help at all for a saliva drug test.
Other ways to pass saliva and urine drug tests
Rather than experiment with unpredictable home remedies, why not just invest in a product that's been developed for exactly this task. For example, detox drinks can reduce the concentration of toxins in your urine, but they do it in a way that will also see you through the adulterant test by preserving the baseline characteristics of your urine. More demanding users may prefer to get a two-stage detox kit for some extra peace of mind.
We pointed out earlier that the Sure Jell method will not help you pass a drug test, so it's better instead to use a good detox mouthwash shortly before your test. This can eliminate toxins from your mouth, but only for a short period, so always make sure you pick the right time.
